Winter CSA 2024-25

We offer a winter CSA running November through March! Members receive 10 shares, one every-other week for 5 months (except Small shares, which receive 5 monthly shares). Winter shares focus on staples that you use regularly. Variety comes through different colors, shapes, and flavors!  Here's information from last year's CSA:

The 2024 - 25 shares will feature the following veggies:

* Beets    * Cabbages    * Carrots    * Daikon radishes    * Garlic    * Kale    * Kohlrabi    * Onions    * Parsnips *Potatoes   *Pumpkins    * Rutabagas    * Turnips    * Winter squash  

All veggies, except some potatoes, are grown on Offbeet Farm located in the Cripple Creek neighborhood of Fairbanks. We purchase locally-grown potatoes from Bender Mountain Farm, located off Farmer's Loop in Fairbanks.

Small shares are designed for 1-2 people or those looking to sprinkle something local into their wintertime meals. These are monthly shares, with roughly 15 lb. each delivery.

Regular shares are our standard size. These are designed for 2-3 people with 11 to 13 lb. every two weeks. (These are most-similar to the old half shares.)

Large shares are designed for 3-5 people. These will consist of roughly 18 lb. of veggies every two weeks. (These are most-similar to the old full shares.)

SUPER shares are designed for BIG families who eat lots of veggies. Every two weeks you'll receive roughly 25 lb. of veggies through the winter.

How does a winter CSA differ from a regular, summer CSA?  In a traditional summer CSA, the customer shares the risks of farming with the farmer. If there's a drought, insect breakout, or other problem that prevents harvest, the farmer still makes an income to pay bills, workers, etc. In a winter CSA, the crops are already grown, and the main risks are with long-term storage. The customers share the risks of storage with the farmer in a winter CSA. We've been storing vegetables through the winter  since 2017 and are confident in our techniques, facilities, and backups. That said, weird stuff can happen. If there are losses of one crop, we'll try to make up the value by adding more of other crops to the shares. Vegetables in winter CSAs are also less perishable than in summer CSAs; you'll have more time to eat them before they go bad.

Can I split my CSA share with friends?  Yes, absolutely! If you're worried you won't be able to eat all the veggies or want to divvy up different types of veggies, feel free to share with friends and family!

Will I know what's coming in each share?  Yes. We try to send emails a few days before shares are ready to let you know what veggies are coming and remind you about pickups. 

Can I request substitutions in my shares?   At this time, we're not offering substitutions without special circumstances.  If you have food allergies or other medical reasons why you can eat certain veggies, we're happy to make adjustments to your shares.

What if I am out-of-town for a pickup?   You have a couple options if you'll be gone during a pickup. There's an extra pickup date for the CSA at the end of March. If you'll be out-of-town for one of the pickups, let us know and we'll defer that share to the extra pickup date. You can also have a friend pick up your share.

Can I purchase additional veggies?  Yes! If you need more of something in addition to your share, please let us know.
